A few weeks behind, but I figured better late then never.
Turned into about 4 months behind, but again better late than never.
Following our trip out to the west coast for my cousins wedding in August, we geared up for a two-week vacation at the end of August to get ourselves ready for the new school year. Here is the recap from back then!
Gearing up for a last couple of weeks of the summer we had a few things planned to enjoy time together and rest up for the new school semester ahead.
First up was a trip to Revelstoke to cash in on a free white water rafting trip down the Illecillewaet River that I had won earlier in the year at the Calgary Outdoor show. I was able to leave the dog with a local pet boarding place, so that she could have a day of play while her humans enjoyed a day of activities that were sadly not dog friendly.
We paddled somewhere between 22 and 23 Km’s, three out of seven paddlers fell out of the boat on one of the rapids, me included in that three and even with my shoe falling off I managed to make it back in the boat shoe and all.
We enjoyed a beautiful sunny day as we made our way from start to finish. Once we got back to the car, we headed straight to Revelstoke Mountain to get our numbers to wait in line for the mountain coaster. We got word that if you bought your tickets ahead of time it gave you a discount, but no help in the wait time. By the time we had arrived mid afternoon the wait was listed at about 2 and a half hours. We thought no worries, grabbed a drink and some appies on a close by patio – with everything being so connected on the mountain, the restaurant even had TV’s displaying the call numbers for the coasters so guest wouldn’t miss their turns.
We had enough time to enjoy the sun on the patio, and then when our number was called we headed up on the gondola, to wait for our turn on the coaster. It was no more than 3 minutes from the top of the hill to the bottom, but “OH MAN” was it fun and fast. I was a little upset that when we reached the bottom, the coast employee informed me that they were not tracking the times, and was upset to find out that I could not tell who had won between Rod and myself. Side note: I never used the brake, Rod said he did – I would say that leads me to believe that I would have won the time race.
We camped overnight at the Williamson Lake campground, that offered this beautiful little private lake. We took advantage of the limited number of people on the water to take out the paddle boards for an evening paddle before dinner.
Following our day of adventure, we continued on our drive to Shuswap lake to meet the family from Vancouver for a few days of camping and paddle boarding.
The kids were excited to get on the paddle boards, and I was excited to get my mom, my sister and my brother-in-law out on the water. Rod and I enjoyed a few paddles out to the middle of the lake to just sit and enjoy the warm water and silent nature.
Unfortunately, we had to spend some time under the tarps as we encountered some rain, but that didn’t keep us from hitting some trails for a small hike in the area.
Sadly, we had to part ways from the family and head home to unpack, repack and head out for our second week of vacation.
Until Next Time,
– Rod & Tracy
