Following our week of camping with the family, we had the chance to head down to Waterton to enjoy some more time in the mountain. As always, I am so appreciative of the time we get to spend in Waterton. It truly has become a favorite place that we always wish we could spend more time in.
This time we invited some friends up from California to experience all that Waterton has to offer. Unfortunately, the weather was not great, but we made the best of it by getting outside during the weather breaks.
We got in some paddling, Andrew was able to give it a try for the first time. He got to understand how cold Emerald lake is in September. I have yet to experience that, which I am very thankful for. We enjoyed the best hotdogs in town “Wieners of Waterton” with both of the dogs just waiting for food to drop. We enjoyed game nights, and some great meals cooked by the boys. Crystal and I enjoyed our time reading and napping by the fire on the regular.
The best part of the weekend had to be the surprise that everyone knew about but me.
It started with a weather clearing, where the rain stopped and the sun came out. Crystal suggested we go for a nature walk, and like most walks we ended up down at Bertha Bay. Like other moments in my life I was very used to Rod setting up his camera, to capture some sort of photo, so it was no surprise when he started to set up his gear.
I as his usual sit and stare object headed to the log to hook up the dog and enjoy the view. It was until Rod handed me his phone and a pair of headphones that something was a little different.
My own personal engagement video was what was in front of me. There were tears, emotions and some confusion – the plan that Rod had laid out regarding his plans for New York, I found out were much more than he told me. I’m pretty sure the first words out of my mouth were – “You totally LIED!”
The rest was my dream come true, my adventure partner and best friend got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him. My answer was tears and of course “YES”.
We have spent the last four years getting to know each other, travelling and exploring the mountains, taking care of Avery and creating this new life together. I had wanted this for so long and now here it was. I couldn’t have been happier.
RECAP:
Since then life has been busy. Following our engagement in Waterton, we came home and jumped right back into work for Rod and school for me.
With a tough semester, we found we spent our weekends catching up on life and just enjoying each other’s company then trying to keep up the adventures. This is where our blog seemed to lack. These days with so many others doing so many things and broadcasting it all over the Internet, I struggled with the fact that we had less time for adventures and even less time for blog posts, Instragram posts or Facebook updates. I hope that once school is complete this coming April, Rod and I will have more time to get out, take some more photos and share our adventures with you here.
For anyone who does like to read our adventure blog, I apologize that we have not be able to keep up on a more regular basis. This coming year, Rod and I definitely have some adventures coming up this summer, including our wedding!
I can’t wait to share them with whoever wants to read them!
Until Next time (and hopefully sooner then every 4 months)
