Yesterday we decided to take a Friday and head up to Canmore to enjoy a night away from home in the mountains.

We set our objective to leave early in the morning, get up and out into Peter Lougheed Provincial Park  and set out on a snowshoe trip up to Rawson lake. The map read that it was only a 4km trip from one way and I was like hey – that’s not too bad.  Turns out I was a little wrong.  It was a nice 1.2km to the bridge and then 2.7km to the lake.  Fun part was – it was 2.7km straight up hill.  Let’s just say I was feeling the out of shape of being in school and not making it outside or to the gym as much as I would like.

But like all of our objectives, I hate it during but the end is always worth it.  We enjoyed the mountains, fresh air and the quiet of being the only two at the top.  Unfortunately, with the cold we couldn’t handle staying up at the top too long, but managed to the mandatory photo ops before heading back down.

Following checking into our hotel, we got ready for dinner and headed out to Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co. for some amazing pasta and pizza. Being pretty tired from the hike, we decided to head back to just relax and enjoy the hotel room with the dog. She happened to be pretty wiped as well.

This morning was a lazy morning in bed, before heading out to the best bagel place in town – Rocky Mountain Bagel Co.  Apparently all of our food choices this weekend included the idea of the rocky mountains, which makes sense based on our backdrop.

Following a few dog stops we decided to hit the road and head back home.  Of course, there was a mandatory stop for milkshakes at Peters Drive In and then we continued on home to Lethbridge.

We may have only been away from home for night, but our little mini adventure was exactly what we needed; get out of town, enjoy the mountains and breath in that mountain fresh air.

Until next time,

– Tracy
