Sorry for the delay in Posts, this one is for July 6-7th – We ran out of internet when we hit our spot for the night!
Just like that we are down one state with two to go! Following Rod’s last post, we spent some quality relaxing time at the Minnie Peterson Campground. The next morning we were up early, packed up our site and headed out of the Olympic National Park to Long Beach, to check into our favorite eco-friendly boutique hotel Adrift.
We happened to come across a turn off for Ruby Beach and decided to check it out. The joys of not having a super set schedule we can check out as many places as we can find. This beautiful beach, was the essence of the Washington coast. With a slight overcast and the tide on its way out it was the best introduction to the Pacific Ocean.
Once into the town of Long Beach, the Cottage Bakery was our first stop while waiting for our room to be ready. This bakery has everything you can think of. Rod and I enjoyed picking up our favorites, included an apple turn over, chocolate chip cookies and of course some old fashioned glazed donuts. Looking back at pictures from our first trip here, this happened to be our exact order the first time we were here, which we thought was pretty funny.
Once we were all set up in our room for the night, we decided to take full advantage of the free bikes available at the hotel, and headed out for a nice little 6-mile bike ride along the ocean. Stopping to enjoy the view, and for Rod to experiment with some photos, it was a great way to enjoy the fresh ocean breeze evening.
The next thing on our list was a trip back to the Lost Roo, a local restaurant, featuring an Australian theme. We enjoyed a little more extravagant meal this evening to celebrate our return to this little seaside retreat, and of course the return to our first road trip destination some three years ago.
Like most towns, there is always a Welcome To (your destination sign). Thinking back to our first trip, I had remembered we had taken a selfie in front of that sign, and being back we thought it would be fun to recreate it 3 years later.
As you can see, not much has changed with us!
This place will always be special to us, and we hope that there will always be a chance to return in the future. Who knows, once we live in Vancouver, this might be an easier and more frequent getaway.
We were up decently early this morning, to head upstairs to the restaurant for an absolutely amazing breakfast. Rod enjoyed their French toast, while I indulged in their eggs benedict. After packing up the room and checking out, we hung out in the lobby, to take advantage of free Wi-Fi, looking ahead to book a couple campsites for the next few destinations. We have been pretty lucky in getting sites, but we know that the weekends will be harder to book during the summer season.
We are now on the road, just crossed over into the State of Oregon. We can’t wait to experience the coastal roads, and mountain trails that await us.
Here are some extra photos from along the way in Washington:
Until Next Time!
