Well Oregon, two days in and you are not disappointing. Our costal drive down the 101 has been absolutely beautiful. We crossed over the Oregon Border on Tuesday and continued to head south. We drove through down to Cannon Beach, our first stop for the day. It was a beautiful sunny day where even though a good amount of people were out enjoying the beach and its activities, it was still a big enough beach that it still felt peaceful and relaxing.
We enjoyed some beach time, taking a walk along the water and of course finding our perfect Hand Stand photo op. After soaking up some sun, we decided it was time to press on and head down past Tillamook to the Whalen County State Campground.
But first we must mention a little detour we took along the way. The Tillamook Cheese Factory was this huge factory just on the outside of the town of Tillamook. Rod had remembered his colleague had mention to him that this was a place to stop and it sure was worth it. We watched the cheese being created, and then packaged along a very sophisticated assembly line. We enjoyed the selection of samples, and purchased a few treats for the road. We also indulged in their homemade ice cream. It was by far some of the best ice cream I have ever had. Thank you again to Lisa for the suggestion!!
We landed in the Whalen County State Campground in the early evening, set up camp and enjoyed a hearty burger and corn meal, set up watching the sun set along the river. Rod enjoyed the light and capture some beautiful shots as the sun went down, and hoped to get some star shots in, but due to light pollution, they did not work out as well as he had hoped.
We enjoyed a nice sleep in the next morning, and decided that due to being out of Internet for the evening we would try and track down some WIFI. We headed into the town of Lincoln, found a comfy Starbucks and settled in with a Chai Latte to post our last blog story, check up on Facebook, and a few other Internet things.
We had decided our next stop was further down south in the fishing town of Newport. We managed to find an awesome campsite at the South Beach State Park. Once we got our site, we headed down to the historic waterfront, checked out the local scene and to enjoy some local craft brews from the Rogue Brewery.
The rest of the night was sitting by the fire, reading, having a few drinks and just taking in the quiet. Yesterday morning we are headed inland towards Willamette National Forest. We don’t really have a plan as to what we will get up to or where we will stay, but so far we have being making decisions as we go and it has been working out pretty good so far!
Until Next Time!
