Wow what a couple of days it has been! Rod and I apologize that we are a few days behind on keeping everyone up to date on our adventures and our whereabouts. We last left you with Rod’s beautiful images of Crater Lake, and mentioned that we had just crossed over the border into California.
We headed first to Crescent City, in Northern California, where we set up camp in the Florence Keller County Park campground within the Redwood Forests. We headed into town, enjoyed some rest at the local waterfront and beach and then set the rest of the day to get laundry done, and check out the local town.
The next morning, we were up early to continue down the coast to Mendocino, this unfortunately was a longer drive than we expected, we continued down the coast until we found a KOA campsite to set up for the evening. A little more luxury with a KOA, but we surely enjoyed the hot showers and clean facilities. We tried to catch the sunset, but unfortunately the clouds beat us and it was gone by the time we hit the beach.
As always, we were up early and wanted to get a jump on the driving, as I was thoroughly excited we were heading to San Francisco this day (catching up on dates this was Tuesday July 14). It has been years since both Rod and I have been there, but we only had the day, so we had a couple set objectives to get through in the day. First on our list was as we were coming into town was the Golden Gate Bridge. I wanted to the very touristy photo up but of course with our little spin on things with a couple of handstands. We drove around to a few different viewpoints to get the shot just right.
Following a nice drive over the bridge, we headed downtown to fisherman’s wharf and pier 39 for lunch. We strolled through the busy streets, and took in the sights, noticing that it has been a while since being in a big city. Most of our stops along the way have been cute little towns with small populations.
Once all of our tourist stops were made, we made the fun decision to drive through downtown San Fran and find the Chrome store, a brand that Rod has known for some years and loves the quality of their products. After a new pair of shoes for Rod and a sweet sale sweater for myself, we plugged in our campsite for the night that was over in Oakland. Fun part of this was we got to spend about an hour in crazy downtown/bridge rush hour traffic, something we both have not dealt with in a while (a joy of Lethbridge, there is no traffic, let alone a rush hour of traffic). We made our way into the Anthony Chabot Park off of the 580 freeway. It was crazy, you take one road through a residential area, and then all of a sudden you are in a forest, just like that!
The next morning (now to the 15 of July) we packed up camp and set out to Yosemite. We had two nights booked, as we figured we might need more time to get into the park, set up and still have plenty of time to explore. The drive in was a long one but it sure was worth it.
Stay tuned for our full day of adventures playing in Yosemite National Park!
Until Next Time!
