The Adventures continue, although this one was a little more stable and set in once place. This past weekend we were excited about the ability to get 5 whole days up at the wonderful Ranson Family Cabin in Waterton Lake National Park.
This is a place that we have mentioned many times before in our blog, it is a favorite place of ours to head into the mountains for the night, checking out new backcountry sites, lakes, waterfalls and all the beauty that the park has to offer. This time we enjoyed the comforts of the cabin life, where we invited friends down to enjoy some relaxation, good food, good company and outdoor activities.
Katie and I drove down Thursday afternoon, we spent the afternoon enjoying taking the dog for a swim in the lake and the warmth of the sun/smoke with glasses of wine and some quality reading material. Rod joined us after work to make us dinner and enticed us to play a game of Exploding Kittens. You really have to just check it out, it would take me too long to explain.
Katie sadly had to leave the next morning to head back to work. Rod and I decided to head out for a nice little 10 km round trip hike out to Forum Lake. Taking the Akamina Pass we headed out to the BC border to follow the trail into the lake. To explore a little more, we walked around the lake, the dog was able to handle the sliding rocks with ease, much better than I was.
We returned back from our hike, to enjoy some down time cook dinner together and enjoy the view. Saturday morning we enjoyed a nice sleep in and waited for the Foster crew to join us. They arrived in the afternoon and with a short weather window, we decided to head up to Cameron Lake and head out on the water. Brittany and I took out a couple paddle boards, while Rod followed in a kayak to catch us in action on the water. It was a great day on the lake, the wind was nice enough to calm down and the rain tapered off. It was so calm on the water, a thoroughly enjoyable activity that now has me wanting a paddle board of my own.
The evening we all enjoyed another big dinner, and we got going with the Exploding Kittens and Catch Phase games to take us into the late evening. We wanted to make sure the Foster crew got in as much nature and activities as possible, so with another weather window and the dogs all packed we headed out for a shorter 5.6 km hike up to Bertha Falls. We managed to get back to the cabin just as the rain started to fall.
What better way to end the Fosters trip was to go and check out the new frozen yogurt Waffleton of Waterton place before they headed back to town. Rod and I enjoyed the rest of the evening catching up on our books. The rain and weather made for a sad day on Monday but we made the best of the morning in bed, packed up and cleaned up and headed back to town ourselves.
Rod and I both are always so thankful for the time we get to spend up at the cabin. It is truly a beautiful way to spend a weekend away before the crazy hustle and bustle of school life begins next week.
We hope that there will be as many as adventures as possible during the school year, and can’t wait to share them everyone when they happen!
Until Next Time
