I can’t believe that it is already the beginning of July. Rod and I have been charging so many weekends that this summer is just flying by. We look forward to each and every weekend, we just wish that we had an endless amount, and eventually we will. I say this because I still have one more year where I have to live more of a student life, which means working on the weekends as I’m taking classes during the week. But the end is near for that which brings so many big things. More on that later!
This July long weekend was a bit of a last minute plan making but found us staying in town to play hostess to my very best friend from back home. Taking the trip out on Friday morning and leaving Sunday night meant that we had a lot to pack in, in a short amount of time.
Picking her up from the airport, I jumped at the opportunity to have some girl shopping time in Calgary. We grabbed lunch at the Wild Rose Brewery, best food and beer EVER, and then headed home to Lethbridge.
The evening events included the local Bulls Canada Day Baseball game, stocked full of beer, hotdogs and winning some pizza for being the loudest crowd members. Following the game they opened up the field for everyone to grab a spot in the outfield to watch the annual Henderson Lake Canada Day fireworks. It was perfect as everyone had enough space to spread out and not be stuck next to each other like sardines, as I am sure they were next door at the lake itself.
The next morning we were up early to grab the paddle boards and head down to Waterton to show Justine our favorite place in the world. Enduring a “quick” 2km hike was much harder than expected with the boards. As much as the travel bags that they came with have backpack straps so that you can wear the bag and take them places with no car access they were much heavier than expected. But I made my way, slower then anticipated, but made it nevertheless.
We paddled our way around the lake, the dog enjoying watching all the people on the shore. We have found our stride and I guess our balance together. She managed to stand up and turn around on the board, all the while I maintained standing and dry. So we were pretty excited about that milestone for her and me.
The three of us took time to paddle around before getting hungry and wanting to head down to the town to grab hotdogs from Wieners (because really, where else are you going to go for lunch?). Following lunch, we wandered around the main drag and showed Justine the town, the water and walking path, up past the family cabin and Cameron falls. It was the ultimate 1 hour walking tour. We grabbed some ice cream for the drive home and made our way back to Lethbridge.
Dinner that evening was a must to show off 2 guys where we enjoy as always the best pizza in town. Justine and I headed to Browns for a few drinks and some more catch up girl time. I am truly thankful for the friends that have maintained their friendship with me, even living 1200 km away. It can be hard as lives get busy and even being in the same city to keep up regularly. I was thankful she made the time to come visit, see what my life has been like since moving away from home four years ago. I know that no matter what, even if life keeps us separated or time gets in the way that if I ever need her she will be there for me. A true friend is someone that you know is there even if you don’t talk with them every day or even every month.
Sunday we completed a little driving tour of Lethbridge and then we headed up to Calgary for dinner and the airport drop off.
The weekend was a prefect piece of home, and just what I needed as this summer with the limited vacation time, saw me heading home fewer times than normal. I love home and miss home everyday, but can enjoy the time that I get to spend in a different place with the man that I love.
The next few weekends involve more time in Waterton, a couple weddings, paddle days and a road trip adventure.
Until Next Time,
– Tracy
