This weekend adventure episode had me a little concerned at the start of the hike but thankfully the end destination was definitely worth the hike.
This backcountry trip took us up to Castle Mountain and a what felt like a private lake just at the base of Haig Mountain.
The hike itself, if you have ever been to Castle mountain ski resort, started with literally walking up one of the green runs. Felt pretty vertical and boy did my calves feel that one. As daunting as it was, it was a hike where I knew that if I told myself I could do it, and that the end goal would be worth it I could push through, and it certainly was.
After a shortish 3/4km hike we made it up to the lake. It was up to us to find our food prep area, a place far away for the tent and a bear hang in the opposite direction but we had the place to ourselves. We spent the afternoon reading in the hammock, letting Avery run through the grass, explore the smells and just be in nature as she very much enjoys.
Dinner was followed by more reading and heading to bed as the sun went down and the temperature started to decline.
The next morning we were graced with a beautiful sunrise and gorgeous reflections off the water. After packing up camp, we headed back down the route and back down the green run where this time my quads were in for the workout.
I work really hard at trying not to take this life for granted. Rod and I have been blessed with work that keeps us busy during the week, but grants us time to enjoy the mountains and play outside where I think we feel most at home. Packing everything on our backs, and getting the chance to explore places that maybe not everyone gets to explore is a treat that we greatly appreciate and never take for granted. We value the time we get to spend together, and always enjoy the moment and then tend to look forward to the next adventure that presents itself.
Until Next Time,
Tracy + Rod
